It’s National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) history month! Therefore what better way is there to celebrate Music Monday than by honoring a musical icon of the community? We couldn’t think of one, so today’s feature is the legendary, Tracy Chapman.
I’m not sure how many of you were introduced to the genius of Chapman, but I remember my introduction clearly—as it wasn’t that long ago. An ex and I were in a pretty emotionally unhealthy relationship, and after one of our notorious arguments, she played the song, “Give Me One Reason” over and over and over again. Though I was in a pretty annoyed mood, I could not deny the beauty of what I was hearing. Saying that Chapman’s voice and lyrics were the reason my ex and I decided to give it another chance would not be an exaggeration.
That’s the power of Chapman. Not only is this talented individual loved by many because of the gift of being able to write and sing songs that feel so personal to many, but also for being a continuous voice in many areas of social activism and being an inspiration for change. If you have somehow been living off the grid and have no idea who this is, check out the work below and become familiar!
As always, love and hug more!
